Overview

The Awards in Pension Trusteeship (APT) is for trustees, or those interested in trusteeship, based on the Pensions Regulator’s indicative syllabus. It provides formal recognition of a trustee’s knowledge and understanding (TKU) in line with the requirements of the Pensions Act 2004.

Qualification Structure & Assessment

This qualification comprises one mandatory unit covering three syllabus areas.

 Syllabus Area 1 : Law and pensions overview

 Syllabus Area 2 : Investment and funding issues for defined contribution and defined benefit pensions

 Syllabus Area 3 : Scheme management issues for defined contribution and defined benefit pensions Further details on assessment can be found in the relevant test specification

How is it assessed?

The qualification is assessed by a 90 minute examination in the form of a 60 question multiple choice exam paper, designed to test knowledge right across the syllabus.

Where and when are examinations held?

Public Examination Sittings

There are two public examinations per year; March and September. Public examinations will be held online.

It is also possible to arrange a private examination sitting (online)

Requirements

There are no formal prerequisites for this qualification; either qualifications or knowledge and experience. However, we would anticipate most candidates would be working in the field and/or undertaking the role of trustee.

Those planning to enter for the examinations are recommended to work through the e-learning programme at The Trustee toolkit, which has been developed by The Pensions Regulator to meet their Trustee Knowledge and Understanding (TKU) requirements.

The price of the exam does not include Membership and this must be purchased at an additional cost.
